I can remember how things felt in December 2020. I picked up the December 2020 edition of Campaign Magazine UK 2020 annual. Yesterday I was walking through a communal space, on my way to get an afternoon caffeine hit, and I was looking for inspiration, or possibly distraction. It's weird the things you pick up without realising and the impact these things can have on you. How much has really changed? How much have you grasped the opportunity? How brave have you been? Have you acknowledged where you where, and where you are? What about you, do you still love the operational side of your role? Infact, do you know what the favourite part of your role is?! I'm aware that there will be cases and examples when this is not possible, but honestly one of the biggest mistakes I have made in my career (and I have made a few) was moving away from the core element of recruitment during 2017-2020.Įver since realising the error in my ways, I have promised I would keep my hand in, and I love it! I'll be even more honest, the operatioanl elements were the most successful part of my day yesterday! I spoke with two brilliant people, sent them to my client, they are now interviewing later this week. I must admit I find it fascinating when leaders, or senior individuals within an organisation have removed themselves from the 'coal face.' I hate to hear the terms 'I'm jumping back in,' why did you jump out in the first place I always think?! They want someone who wants the operational element in their world. Yes, but the business I am partnered with, is looking to hire someone who still has that mix of operational desire, skills and engagement, combined with the ability to lookup, and out strategically. A role which will see the person who lands the opportunity start as a Head Of, move to Director within six months, then there is a genuine route to CMO in the future. We were talking about a fantastic senior marketing role I am working on at the moment. Speaking to a fantastic marketeer last night, I found it refreshing when she uttered the above sentence to me (not the hear hear, that was my response BTW.) Most of all, I wonder what memories, and or feelings seeing the little red, Little Chef logo has evoked for you this morning? Yes, I agree, this can be both a positive and negative.įor those who are leading businesses, do you focus on the brand story and vision or your business? Do you know how your brand makes people feel?įor those who work within organisations, I wonder how important brand is?Īre you leveraging your brand or the brand on your recruitment partner when looking to hire, grow, and retain your team?ĭo you have a recruitment partner that understands brand?! However, I still believe the majority of businesses don’t understand the power a brand story, proposition, and offering can have for them. Yes, I accept the rise of personal brand has gone from a bandwagon, to a full movement. For the person I was speaking with, it’s the ‘chaos, but good chaos,’ that they remembered about working there. I was, and will always remind me of a ‘treat’ when going on long car journies. For me, my memories are completely rose tinted and I have nothing but love for the Little Chef. We spent at least 10 minutes, as children of the 80’s just reminiscing about the restaurant chain. Speaking to someone yesterday who spent the early part of their career working across Marketing and Creative at Little Chef reminded me of the powerful feelings brands can evoke. Drop me a DM, or e-mail and lets get started. Then I would love to help you define that list, and there is no need to pay me $25,000 to find out how. If you are trying to recruit right now, if you are trying to grow right now, if you just wanted to undertand the world of people and talent through a combination of insight, and experience. In a world of constant distraction, in a world of increased procrastination, regardless of your company, role, or future plans, I have 3 questions for you: Every morning, write down a list of things that need to be done that day. JP Morgan read what was inside and paid the £25,000 instantly.ġ. The person agreed, hands were shook, the envelope passed across. 'I'm intrigued, so I will read what is inside, and if I like it, I will pay you $25,000 immediately.' 'Well, to find out, I will sell you this envolope for $25,000' With more success than any modern day ChatGPT written hook, JP Morgan is instantly interested and replies, 'tells me more.' 'Sir, in my hand, I hold a guaranteed formula for success.' The person approaches JP with an envelope and states: It's a story I think will resonate with many, it certainly does with me. Have you ever heard of the story about the person who approach the banker JP Morgan and proclaimed the above statement? In my hand, I hold a guaranteed formula for success.
